After the Old Gods Died...
Kirby's classic work in the
70's when he moved to DC is now available for the first time in 20 years,
reprinted in black and white, with gray tonal values. These were the series
that influenced just about every modern superhero comic artist or writer.
These "FOURTH WORLD" books collect
Jack Kirby's ground-breaking
NEW
GODS series in an affordable format. Many consider this 1970's DC series--a
part of his larger
FOURTH WORLD epic-- to be his most imaginative
and original work, one in which he had the opportunity to write the stories
as well as plot and draw them. The artwork is in black and white, colored
with a gray tonal wash, giving the illustrations a majesty they never had
in the old four-color printing.
Jack Kirby was creator or co-creator
of some of the most important characters in comics, including
Captain
America, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk,
Thor,
the Silver Surfer, the
Avengers, the Uncanny X-Men,
and the Challengers of the Unknown. Also included in this
series are Mister Miracle and The Forever People. |

The
first story recounts the tale of Dr. Magus, a collector of souls. When
he stops at the circus, he attempts to collect the souls of the elders
to become an all-powerful God. But in his haste and greed, Dr. Magus forgets
about the quietest member of the Four-Who-Are-OneIn the second tale, Devon
and Kara, lovers and members of rival gangs, discover each other`s secrets
during a jaunt to the Circus of Souls. Will their allegiances to their
gangs tear them apart or can they learn to forgive even the darkest sin
and strengthen their love?In the third account, the circus members narrate
stories of how each of their lives came to be foever inked to the Four-Who-Are-One
elders. These fascinating tales amazingly parallel the lives of Blackwell,
Fortunado, Tiberius and Stargrave`s lives in another time and place. The
last story details the life of gifted musician, Romeo Blade. He has everything
he ever desired in both his personal and professional life. However, Romeo
forgets about the warning given to him by the gypsy witch when he visited
the circus: 'Everything has a price and gifts must be respected.' Take
a journey with the members of the Kiss Psycho Circus and learn of their
lives, the lives they have affected and the fate of those who refuse their
advice. |
